Day 1 of the Johnny Manziel sober campaign begins today

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Today is July 1st, which means that Johnny Manziel has been sober for almost half a day now. Hopefully...

In an recent interview with TMZ, Manziel pledged to begin his sober track to recovery starting today. His father has recently spoken out against his son, telling ESPN that he is a "druggie" and that "He just hasn't [sought] it yet. Hopefully he doesn't die before he comes to his senses. That's about all you can say. I don't know what else to say." Manziel is currently on a expensive vacation down in Cabo with 20 other people doing God knows what.

The free agent has some work to do if he wants to get back in to the league. The NFL suspended him for 4 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The suspension will be effective immediately if he signs with an NFL team, key word on if. The league has expressed that there is a possibility that Manziel could face further discipline for being charged with assaulting his girlfriend. Johnny is also facing a law suit for doing $32 thousand in damages to a $4.5 million rental home in April.

We have not heard from Manziel today so there is a possibility he went all out and didn't make it. If he is still alive, I find it pretty hard to believe that he would begin being sober 3 days before the 4th of July. Maybe he did enough drugs and drank enough booze so it would last him past the 4th? Sounds like a Johnny Manziel kind of thing to do. Are we going to trust his word? Absolutely not. Anyone could make that kind of claim and since it is coming from the alcoholic Manziel, it makes it much harder to believe. It's like if Andy Reid and Rob Ryan came out and said that they were going to take their last bite of fast food starting tomorrow. It sounds nice, but would we actually believe it? Probably not.

I would say the over/under on days that Manziel stays sober is about 2 days. Good luck to you Johnny, hopefully you can beat the odds.
